Fighting to keep going
Updated: Mar 29, 2019
Rainford Show has become a popular part of village life since it’s rebirth in 1981. It has been judged to be one of the best local shows in the area. However its future is now in doubt. The Show Committee met recently to discuss the present situation.
We have lost a number of committee members over recent years. Despite requests and appeals in various ways and places, we have not been able to attract enough new members to join our committee and to take on the positions of Chairman or Secretary. We looked at the number of tasks involved and members of the committee took on a number of these but there are still gaps. It was decided that the show could only happen if major changes were to take place.
One such change will be to bring forward closing dates for entries. For this year’s show the closing date for entry forms for all sections apart from Photography, will be Tuesday, 27th August, I.e. 4 days before the show on Saturday, 31st August.
Photography entry forms, fees and exhibits must be submitted between Friday 16th August and 8 p.m. on Friday 23rd August. No entries will be accepted after these dates.
In order to hold the show, we need people to come forward to help by taking on the responsibility for various aspects of the show, both during the event and in its preparation and organisation. Preparation begins shortly after the previous show. We have four committee meetings during the year. These usually take place in September, January, April and July.
The work on the day of the show and the days immediately preceding it is very intensive. We need help with administration, setting up the show, manning the stage during the show and dismantling the show etc.
We hope the show will go ahead on 31st August and so we are planning our usual Coffee Morning and Plant Sale in the Parish Hall on 27th April. There will be the usual high quality bedding plants, own grown plants and a raffle. We hope that the schedule will be available at the Coffee Morning.
